PSA- HEB at Highland Knolls and Mason - Katy Tx

I feel really bad! I read this comment on my most recent HEB post and went to post it but my computer was acting up (YET again) so I went to my phone to post. Well FAT finger(and those who know me will tell you my fingers are far from fat - but anyway) fat finger on a tiny smart phone screen deleted this WHOLE message.
Lucky for me, my computer still has it, albeit slow to let me cut and paste. But this is a PSA from reader MASI
Please, Katy readers head this warning ( I do know the store in Mission Bend finally got a security guard for the parking lot due to this same issue!) Let us hope this store gets someone out there watching out for the shoppers!

Here is the cut and paste of the comment I received:
Subject: My friend was robbed at HEB

I am sending this to you so that you can share with others as well. I don't know if you shop at the HEB at the corner of Highland Knolls and Mason, but wanted to share this with you just in case.

My neighbor was shopping at HEB around 10:30 pm. on Wednesday, June 8th. As she finished placing her groceries in her trunk, she thought that the person standing near her was waiting to take her cart. Instead, he pulled a bandana up to his nose, cocked his gun, and held it where she could see part of it. He told her to give up her purse, which of course she did. He was on foot and ran down Highland Knolls, darting behind the bushes that line the outside of the parking lot. She has three very young children and this has been a frightening experience for her and has the neighborhood very concerned.

I spoke with the store manager this morning and he refuses to put up a notice about the robbery in the employees work room!!!!!!!

He claims that they are speaking with each "partner" individually. Don't know about you, but if that was my child working there last night and she/he didn't know about the robbery the night before, I would be upset. That is exactly what happened. Another neighbor asked her checker if she was aware of the robbery the night before and SHE WAS NOT!!!! ~ She gets off at 10 p.m. and always walks to her car.

The morning manager, Brian Constantine tells me that they are trying to tell each employee individually. (not fast enough!~!)

If you shop there anytime after today...try asking an employee if he/she knows about the robbery. I would be curious if he really is telling these employees about what happened!!
He also said they were looking into having a security guard in the parking lot in the evening....we'll see if that happens. Please let me know if you see one in the evening.

Please be aware of everything around you when you leave stores to get into your car. Katy is no longer the sleepy little town just west of Houston!

My friend is glad to speak with anyone about what happened to her. Just call me and I will give you her name and number.

This is a 100% cut and paste from reader Masi's email! Stay safe out there guys! I know the stores in Mission Bend and the one on Westheimer and Kirkwood now have security guards present because of this kind of thing! Let's hope they extend the security to those in Katy!
Don't understand my lingo? Go here.   See my disclosure statement here.

If I'm going shopping after dark, it's always with my rather imposing looking husband. Stay safe. No deal is worth your purse, your car, or your life.

I often see a security guard at the HEB on Buffalo Speedway and hwy 59, too. I thought they were standard to all HEBs. They should be.

Both of the HEB's near my home in the Spring/Willowbrook area have had purse snatchers in the parking lot during the day. They didn't use a gun, they just grabbed the purses off of the arm of women who are walking then speed off in a waiting car. We've also had a string of grocery store bank robberies. Criminals are becoming more and more brazen!

I also shop at this HEB and just so happened that my son's daycare had a field trip there yesterday. I am a man, and I would urge everyone, especially women to do the following:

1) if you have a lot of groceries, or you are shopping with your children at any time of day, get the bagger to take your groceries to the car. let them do the work, while you put your kids in the car. Additionally, unless you have smaller kids(3 or younger, just put them in the car, then you get in the car and buckle them up after you lock your doors.

2) purses...ladies, Im going to say it..sorry..a lot of ladies are real careless with their purses..I think if you have a big purse or a name purse like gucci, fendi, dooney and burke, louie V,etc, leave it at home...get yourself a fanny pack that wraps around your waist and shop with that...yeah, it probably doesnt look all that good, but when you have bags, kids, coupon binders and purse while searching for keys, cell phone, etc...you get the idea..

and finally, never ever go shopping solo at night..please, but if you have to, be especially watchful...these thiefs are lurking everywhere wheter it be Katy, Sugarland, Pearland or the Woodlands and they typically are robbing women who are shopping solo or with kids....

hope that helps...

We have to be really careful when going out. Recently a ladies wallet was lifted at Target on westheimer and grand parkway and it happened in the store. The thief was so callus that he even used the credit card in the store just a few minutes after. The complete story is on KHOU.

Good tips V2four!

I would like to also add, when you get to your car immediately put your purse or diaper bag in the car, then unload your groceries. I've gotten in to a habit of doing this for about 2 years when I read about a similar thing happening in Costco Parking lots.

I called the highland Knolls store (281-599-0045) and got the ph# for the district manager, Richard Castillo 281-364-5200. but you have to call 8 to 5.....in case anyone wants to call and talk to him about it.

By the way - the Randalls right across the street from that HEB does have security guards in their parking lot and they will walk you to your car at night!

This was posted by anon last night but my stupid fat fingers hit delete instead of publish so here is a cut and paste of the email (sorry about that):

It doesn't have to be after dark. Because of the economy, people are desperate. I was robbed in broad daylight on a Saturday morning about a year ago at the Kroger on Bay Hill and 99 a little over a year ago. I was loading my groceries into my car when a car pulled up (I thought they were just waiting for my spot), someone jumped out, and robbed me. The manager there was also less than cooperative (they wouldn't even let me use their phone to call the police and I didn't have one because it was in my purse, which had been stolen) and told me that "it wasn't their problem."

There was also a segment on the news a few nights ago about wallets being stolen out of purses at the Target on Westheimer and 99 in Katy. This is why I no longer carry a purse when shopping. I just keep my cash or debit card in my front pocket along with my ID, so I'm not a Target for thieves who appear to be making the rounds in Katy these days.

Thank you for posting my message...for full disclosure this mail was actually sent by my Homeowner's Association for the Lakes of Buckingham neighborhood. I am still able to provide contact details if needed.`

The YMCA on Westheimer in Katy has also been hit multiple times this past week with people breaking in windows and stealing purses, wallets, electronics, etc. out of cars. This happened in the morning hours (8:30-10 am)....
