Sunday Coupon Preview - 5 INSERTS!!!!

WOW!!!! Big week for coupons! You are gonna want to check out what to expect in this weekends paper in the way of coupons. Don't forget their are some regional variances in brands and coupon values.

Print Now for later sales!!!

Many coupons are going to be reset tonight and there are many HOT coupons out right now you NEED to print to take advantage of future or upcoming sales.  Like

This $1/2 Mars valentine candy coupon.  This coupon has NO size restrictions so you know you should be able to score some FREE single serve hearts at CVS or Walgreens.  Coupon will expire on Valentine's day, so you can't hold out for clearance sales.  I suggest printing soon before they reach their print limit.

This $2 Listerine Zero coupon to get 2 bottles for $1 after ECBS (this sale starts Sunday).

This Arby's coupon to get a free Jr. Shake through Jan 2nd.  (Please check your local Arby's for participation, I can confirm the one in Sugar Land in Hwy 6 IS participating as they sent me the coupon)

How to be a Couponer : Lesson 1 - Becoming Familiar with your Stores

Whether you are looking to be an "extreme couponer" or just to save a good chunk of money off your grocery bill, you will have to start the same.

You need to become familiar with the stores in your area and if available, sign up for their loyalty cards.

Just go to the courtesy desk at your local store and ask for a card.  They will give you a card with an application you can send out and leave with them or mail in.  You can start using that card immediately.  With this step alone, you have probably just saved yourself about 5-10%.  Without a store loyalty card, you do not get advertised sale prices at most stores AND even more importantly, your coupons will not double (at applicable stores).
(This might seem like common knowledge, but I am amazed at the number of people I see that do not use loyalty cards)

If you live in my region (Houston), you will want to consider getting the following cards:

Kroger
Randalls
CVS
Petco
Petsmart

You will want to give them your proper address, phone number and email address as on occasion they will send you coupons based on your shopping habits.  Also, if there is an option, make sure you opt-in to mailings as this is what gives them permission to send you mail and coupons. (I was personally told by the Kroger plus card administrator that they cannot mail you coupons unless you opt in to mailings)
Most stores have an option to enter an alternate id at check out in the event you did not bring your card.  This is typically your phone number, so make sure you if you don't use a real one, you use one you can remember.

While, at the courtesy desk, this would be a good time to ask the store about their coupon policies.  Does the store double or triple coupons?  If so, what days?  Do they offer a scan right guarantee?  What are the restrictions?  Is there a limit to the number of coupons that can be used?  That are doubled?  (I will go into more details on this later and provide you with some answers for the stores in my region)
Some stores have finally put their acceptance policies online, which is GREAT and I highly suggest you print these and carry them with you in to stores in case an issue arises.   Each stores policies vary, even by region, so you may find some differences and it is best to know ahead of time then get an unexpected surprise at the register.

For your convienance here is a list of online store policies of some stores in my region:
Walgreens
Target
Randalls (also Safeway and Tom Thumb)

In addition to asking about the coupon policy, be sure to ask if they offer special discounts and when these are available.  Some stores offer discounts to senior citizens (eligibility age varies by store), military or students.  Be sure to ask if you need to fill out any extra forms to get these discounts.

Stayed tuned HERE for full lesson plans (Sorry, I am working from a power point and have to type up everything I normally just say in my classes, but I will try to get all the lessons up throughout this weekend)

Kroger P&G deal going strong! Some additons to the list

I have decided to repost my matchups for the current P&G deal going on at Kroger right now.  Partly because I completely forgot to remind you to head over to Upromise and load up your coupons! (not familiar with Upromise?  Go here where I explain all about it)

Upromise - What is that?

Upromise was initially created as a way to earn cash back from everyday purchases to save up for future college costs for your children.  However, you don't actually have to have children or use the savings for college expenses.  You can earn the money and apply it to your existing student loans (with certain creditors) or you can request a check be mailed out to you on a quarterly basis.  Go here to read how to do this.  It is FREE to join and so it is FREE money you are earning back.  No reason NOT to join!

You can earn in 3 ways:
Shopping online:
When you are planning an online purchase, log into your upromise account first.  Click the link for the store you are interested in and as simple as that, you have earned cash back.  The percentages vary and you know this upfront when you locate the store.  You can go here to see a list of participating online sites.

Eating Out:
You register your credit or debit cards with upromise, and anytime you eat at a participating restaurant and pay with a registered card, you earn cash back.  Go here to find participating restaurants.

AND my favorite:
Buy Groceries!
Just register your store shopper cards (Kroger, Randalls, CVS, etc).  Every time you make a purchase of a participating product, you earn cash back!  No receipts to turn in or anything.  Your purchases are tallied for you!
To see a list of participating products, go here.
They now offer ecoupons too that can earn you extra savings.  You just need to log into your account once a month and load your ecoupons.  Once loaded, you can make a purchase of any of those items at one of the stores where you have your loyalty card registered and you save!  These savings will show in your Upromise account once approved (can take up to 8 weeks to show up).  Ecoupons are single use, so buying multiple items will not earn you those rewards more than once, but you will earn the regular cash back % for that item on each like item you purchase.

Upromise may not make you rich, but it really is little effort to get a little money back.  I log in once a month for the ecoupons and occasionally when doing online shopping and earn effortlessly.

TLC - Extreme Couponers, one saving grace of the show

I just finished watching Extreme Couponers on TLC and this post is for my normal readers as well as all you folks that are just googling wanting to know how to coupon.  This show certainly did show the "underground" of couponing, lol, but in all the EXTREMES they showed, I was most taken by Joyce from Philadelphia.

Joyce was what MOST of us couponers are actually like.  Joyce was the couponer you need to look and say, I can do this.  The creation of this blog was originally to advertise coupon classes myself and a few coupon buddies held and to have a sign up sheet.  Since then, life has gotten busy (hey we are moms, full time employees, and couponers!)  and we no longer do the classes due to scheduling issues (and venues :)

What does this mean to you?  Well, I originally wanted to expand this blog as a way to expand your knowledge of how to use coupons, and yet I don't have a beginners guide on here.  I do try to "show the math" as much as possible, but unless you really know how to start or rather "how to coupon" or "how to be a couponer", this is of little assistance.

So, in an effort to help you get started, I am going to post our class presentation.  I will post a little at a time to not overwhelm and I will have a permanent link to all these posts on my header bar.

I truly hope this will help some of you cut your budget in half.  You don't have to be extreme and get $500 worth of stuff for $2, but just think of not paying for personal care items again (or at least getting them at a fraction of what you are paying now!)

So if you are new, stick around and hopefully I can teach you how to be a couponer.  And for those that are already my readers, no worries, all my surprise finds and deals will still be posted for your reading enjoyment :)

For those just starting out, please click the link on my tab bar(right underneath my blog picture) on How to be a Couponer. I will be adding to this as time allows.

Alamo Draft House Groupon - $9 for two tickets

Ladies! If your husband is anything like mine, he does NOT like chick flicks! When it is my turn to pick the movie, he knows he is in trouble because it is either going to be a Johnny Depp flick(assuming one is out) or a chick flick, lol.
Well, I have to say, The Alamo Drafthouse has saved me from the eye rolling and gripes! Now, when it is my turn to pick the flick, we go to Alamo Drafthouse. I get to watch a sappy movie without kid interruption and my husband gets to drink a REAL beer (ie, a craft beer). Given that my husband brews his own, he has rather picky taste. They also have a decent menu in the event you don't want to go to a restaurant, but you don't want just popcorn (I am talking FULL MENU!)

So, if interested, you can get 2 movie tickets for $9 today from Groupon. Limit 10 per person, good until March 2011. Woo Hoo, date night is covered for us :)

Sorry to my Austin readers, this is only good at the two Houston area stores :(

Last Chance at Rebates!

Remember Friday is the last day of the month and the last day for several HOT rebates:

P&G $110 value coupon book homemailer.
You purchase $50 worth of P&G items (any) and submit rebate and they mail you a coupon book(trust me, you WANT those coupons!)
If you have been getting the Vicks Sinex at Walgreens or Kroger, the Vicks coughdrops at HEB, the Puffs at Walgreens or HEB or the Herbal Essence and Aussie deal I just posted about at Kroger, ALL those receipts work for this rebate.

P&G $20 rebate
You purchase $50 worth of ANY Olay, Venus, CoverGirl, Secret, Pantene, Herbal Essences and/or Clairol products and get $20 back. You will need upc numbers written on the form so don't put the products away before you get those written down.

Crayola rebate
Several HOT Crayola toys offering $2 or $3 back in rebate.
If you purchased the deals I posted at Amazon, or the ones I posted about Walmart, don't forget to turn in your rebate.  You need to write those UPC numbers on the form so don't throw those boxes away until you get those!
If you have not purchased any of these items yet, Amazon still has a few listed for some decent pricing:

The Crayola Presto Dots to the Max is listed at $9.99 with a $2 rebate.(regular $29.99).
And the  Crayola Glow Explosion Spin Magic is now $11.99(regular $29.99) with $2 rebate

Torn, but have my dvr set- TLC series on Extreme Couponers

I guess everyone will have to decide for themselves how this new show is going to affect our couponing ways.
If you have not heard, TLC is doing a show on Extreme Couponers and highlighting 4 obviously "extreme" cases.  It airs tomorrow night (or tonight I guess 12/28 at 8pm ET/PT)

I am leary about this show as I am worried the stores might impose further coupon limits to keep couponers from "shelf-clearing" and creating their own "in-home super markets"
The players:
Nathan Engels (self proclaimed Mr Coupon and founder of Weusecoupons)
Joanie Demer (one of the owners of KrazyKouponLady blog)
Amanda Ostrowski and
Joyce House

What are your thoughts?

Walgreens run 12-28

I had several Jingle Cash expiring today so I HAD to make a trip to Walgreens. Here is a pic of me shopping:
(ok, just kidding, my sister in law bought me this mini cart for Christmas because she thought it would be cute on my desk.  Well, my daughter decided to draw me AND a coupon binder to decorate the shopping cart! too cute)
Anyway (sorry, goofy tonight)
There are a few HOT deals this week at Walgreens you will want to try to get your hands on.

First, Nyquil Sinex!!!!!
The boxes pictured are $5 on sale (not all stores have these marked, but trust me, they work)
Use the $4 coupons we just got(or the ones last month that expire 12-31)
Pay $4 for the 4 boxes and get $10 back for a profit of $6
(If you only have 3 coupons, you can get 3 and earn a $5 RR so still a small profit)

If you have any of the left over free Puffs tissue coupons you can use two of those too to get free tissues, but I used all mine at HEB because I wanted certain tissues.

There is also a deal on Chex Mix.  The smaller bags are .99 this week and there is an escalating RR deal:
Buy 3 get $1.50, buy 4 get $2.50 or buy 5 get $3.50
I opted for 4 at a time because I only had 8 coupons and it worked better with my $2 Jingle cash I was rolling.
The chocolate are part of the deal, so make sure you use the .50/1 from the 11-14 GM.
Then, go here to print the .50 off any.
If you use these coupons and get 3, your profit will be .03, for 4 it will be .54 and for 5, it will be $1.05!

The final deal I scored was the CoverGirl TruCheeks blush
On clearance for $1.79 at my store and rings up buy 1 get 1 50%
$1.79 + .89 = $2.68
-$2.50/2 insert
= .18 for 2 or .09 each!

Thanks HCW for the info

He Said, She said - Off TOPIC

I am going to warn you ahead of time, this is way off topic, so if you have just come to save money, skip this post.
This post is in response to the story my husband posted here.
He calls me out in the post, so of course being TYPE A, I have to respond! lol

Ok, his call out (and I quote) "I'm down to the last little bit that only my wife is diligent and/or cheap enough to scrape out"

Ok, personally I say non-wasteful!  So what does my darling husband think is a "last little bit"  Well, since a picture is worth 1,000 words, I will give you THREE!

This is WHAT my husband thinks is the "last little bit!"

Here is the sandwich I made my daughter with the "last little bit" (notice, it just took using a rubber spatula instead of a knife)
This is what I call an empty jar of peanut butter :)

Kroger - P&G mega deal and some other HOT finds!

(sorry for the fuzzy pics, new smart phone I am trying to learn)

When I dropped my kids off at school this morning, I decided to run into the Kroger across the street to see if there were any good deals.  BOY was I unprepared!  So, I went home, regrouped quickly and still went out unprepared, but better prepared than I was this morning, lol.(just ask reader Ana how disorganized I am- she saw me shopping today and stopped me to say hello - hope I spelled your name correctly :)

I scored some really good deals as well as saw some really good pricing on other items I did not take advantage of.  SO, instead of doing my line item breakdown, I am just going to tell you the HOT buys and you can decide for yourself which deals you want to hit up.
First, Kroger has added quite a few new loadables to their site, so you may want to hop over there and see what is offered before you make your trek out.  Keep in mind though it is Kroger's policy not to take a loadable coupon on an item you have a paper coupon on.  I am listing both so you know what is available.

Many of the Kroger loadables are really handy with the new P&G promotion Kroger is running.  Currently, they are offering $4 off for each set of 4 participating products you purchase in a single transaction.  I will list these first, then list the other sale items.
Keep in mind I am listing prices AFTER the $4 comes off, hence, with coupons, some of these items will allow for overage!

Hot Sale on Arizona Jeans at JCPenney

JcPenney is having a HOT sale right now on Arizona brand jeans! I was able to snag two pair of jeans for my husband for only $17.30 after tax. That is just $8.65 a pair!!!!!
I saved $5.95 in shipping by having the jeans shipped to store.

I just went to JcPenney's website (I went through ShopDiscover for 5%, but if you don't have a Discover card, ShopatHome , Shortcuts and Upromise are all offering 3%)
I picked out 2 jeans for my husband and it came to $25.98 in the cart.
Then, you can use promo code "ITSOVER" to score $10 off a $25 or more purchase.

Happy Holidays!

I hope all my readers are enjoying some family time this holiday weekend. I know we are spending time with family and as you can see, Santa was good to my daughter this year.  SO BIG now (*sniff sniff)
I have taken a short break from couponing this week to focus on family and especially spend time with my kids, but don't worry, I can never stay too far away from my coupons and will be back to posting my deals and scenarios before you know it.

If you have a preteen or teenager, you are probably familiar with these two stores. Well, according to Dee, today they are offering 40% off in store (a few exclusions you can read about here and here.)

Dee also stated some of the A&F jeans are currently on sale for $36 BEFORE the 40% savings.  That means just $21.60 + tax for jeans that retail $65 otherwise!

Thanks Dee for the heads up.

You can also go here and print for 30% off at Gap or Old Navy stores.

If this book is a bit too furry, you can also get the regular hardcover for just $2.24.

I noticed several other books on sale right now, so you may want to browse around.

A little off topic:  I might have limited posting(I am trying to post the deals I am seeing today but I sprained my wrist and it is making it really painful to type normally)

Save on your cellphone plan! YMMV

I must admit I LOVE my cellphone, but I do not love the bill every month (who does?) Your bill can get rather steep(like mine) especially when you start adding data and texting to your plan! I am a talker (easily consume 3,000 cell minutes a month, -yes I don't know HOW to shut up)
So if you are anything like me, or worse, you have KIDS now on your family plan (YIKES!!!! I am not looking forward to those days!) you might want to read this post. I was talking to one of my good friends yesterday(on my cellphone no less) and she informed me she gets a 10% discount on her cell plan through her husbands employer. I thought, wow, lucky you, I would love a 10% discount (mike at least cover my taxes!).
Well, then I got to thinking harder and realized I have a benefit from my employer too that offers discounts to Sea World, movie theaters etc. I only looked at this briefly once and thought it wasn't a huge money saver and didn't delve into it (SHAME ON ME!). So tonight, I logged in and GUESS WHAT! 10% discount on cellphone service just by calling a number and requesting it! Super easy, I was on the phone less than 10 minutes and 10% just cut off my bill EVERY MONTH!

I did a little research and it seems there are vast numbers of companies and organizations that offer this same discount! Students can get discounts, AAA members, credit union members, shoot I bet even AARP offers this!
So, check your employer, check your significant other's employer, if you are student, check your school, check your insurance company, your credit union. You are bound to have an organization that offers this same discount and you could be missing out on savings you didn't even know where there!

Readers, I pose this question. What methods do you find to save money on other areas like electric, cable service, etc. I would love to add your tips to a post!
Feel free to leave comments here or you can use the contact me tab under my header picture. I am open to suggestions on more ways to save money!

Amazon - some Great toy deals

I love browsing Amazon for cheap toys.  My girls get invited to quite a few birthday parties and spending $15-$20 a gift can get expensive.
That is where Amazon saves me.  I look for games and toys I know they like, and then when I see a good price, I snatch some of these up to save for those birthday parties (sometimes it seems we get an invite a day BEFORE the party)

Well, while searching tonight, I noticed the following:

If you missed the $5 price at Walmart, no worries, Amazon now has U build Connect 4 for $5.

Pop Goes Froggio is just $4.99.

One of my favorite games growing up was Mouse Trap. I wonder how much fun the U build version would be?

Just $5.99 for the Ubuild Mouse trap

You can have all ship free with Amazon Mom or Amazon Prime membership.

Robitussin Printable

Flu season is upon us. Don't forget today select Kroger stores are giving flu shots between 2-7 pm. List of participating stores is on my original post.

Also, if you have FSA money still in your account, you need to stock the medicine cabinet.  This $1 Robitussin coupon might help with the cost.  I need to see what I have left and what my medicine cabinet lacks.

Chili's Free Kids meals with purchase of Adult Entree -today only(Dec. 20)

Shame on Chili's for tempting me like this.  I just received their email and boy how I do love Chili's.

Today only, take this coupon into a participating store and you can get 2 free kid's meal per adult entree purchased.  (Kids must be 12 and under).  Hmmm, I might not be cooking tonight, lol.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, tomorrow (Tuesday) they are offering free chips and queso with adult entree purchase. Limit one per table.

GREAT Toy Deals at Walmart this weekend!!!

Walmart put out a 3 day sale flyer that looked so good, I just had to make the trip. I was pleasantly suprised to NOT only find the stuff still in stock, but I had ZERO issues with my coupons or finding helpful associates to help me.

If you did not take advantage of the Crayola Amazon deals I posted here, you might want to make a quick trip to Walmart (even if you did buy from Amazon for the rebate, this is an awesome deal without rebate)

Walmart has the Crayola Glow Station Day and Night on sale for $10 (it was not marked in my store, but the price checker confirmed the price).  Print the $3 coupon from here, and mail in the $3 rebate from here, and this can be yours for $4!!!!!! (This toy sells for $29.99 regular price at Target)

Walmart also has the Ubuild Monopoly on sale for $5 this weekend.  Look around your store for a tearpad like pictured below to get it for free! (If you don't find the tearpad, you can print this $3 coupon and get it for just $2!)

They also had Ubuild Connect 4 full size game for $5 which is a great price even without a coupon!

And finally, I found these Trivia Pursuit card games for $5.24 so only $5 after insert coupon from 12-5 SS.
WOW!

Free Excedrin coupon - Home Mailers!

Gone now! I was doing my weekly check of printables and noticed coupons.com has added these free Excedrin coupons.  I was happy to see they are going to be home mailers since most stores around here will not take IP's for free items.  Even if you are not a fan of Excedrin, these coupons will be good to request for deals at CVS or Walgreens and you can donate the product.   Might even turn these into a moneymaker deal.

Tangled Four-disc combo set Preorder deal on Amazon

WOW! Tangled is still in theatres and Amazon is already taking preorders!
I went ahead and jumped on this deal because I know I am going to be buying this movie, hopefully the price will go lower, but I am still happy with getting the 4 disc combo for $21.99 shipped AND earned a $5 Amazon Video on demand credit.

Right now, Amazon has the Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy on preorder for $29.99. When you go to the product page, there is an $8 coupon in the center of the screen you need to "activate". Once you do this, you can do 1 click ordering and it will apply the $8 coupon to your order. If you join Amazon Mom or have Super Saver shipping, it will ship for free! Final cost will be $21.99 (or cheaper if price goes down between now and release date) AND since you ordered through 1 click ordering, you have the pre-order price guarantee (Amazon will charge you the cheapest price this set is offered up for from the time you place your order until the release date of the product! - YOU MUST go through 1 click ordering to get this guarantee per their terms and conditions)

I have received my confirmation of pre-order price guarantee and my $5 Amazon Video on Demand credit already. Yay!

*I just checked my DisneyMovieRewards account to enter my daily points, and they are offering pre-orders of the BluRay combo pack(3 disc, not 4) for $24.95 so I am really excited about this prebuy now!

No inserts this weekend - Save your Money

There will be NO coupon inserts in the paper this weekend, so this is a good week to get organized and caught up on your organizing or just finalize any last many end of year stuff that must get done!
