Torn, but have my dvr set- TLC series on Extreme Couponers

I guess everyone will have to decide for themselves how this new show is going to affect our couponing ways.
If you have not heard, TLC is doing a show on Extreme Couponers and highlighting 4 obviously "extreme" cases.  It airs tomorrow night (or tonight I guess 12/28 at 8pm ET/PT)

I am leary about this show as I am worried the stores might impose further coupon limits to keep couponers from "shelf-clearing" and creating their own "in-home super markets"
The players:
Nathan Engels (self proclaimed Mr Coupon and founder of Weusecoupons)
Joanie Demer (one of the owners of KrazyKouponLady blog)
Amanda Ostrowski and
Joyce House

What are your thoughts?

Are companies writing checks they can't cash? (producing coupons but not wanting you to use them) I don't understand this. If couponers only use 1% of the coupons printed yearly, why are the store limiting couponers on how many coupons a couponer can use. There should be enough items for every coupon printed.

Worried on a lot of levels about this show, particularly that the show will promote couponing on a mass scale -- I know it sounds selfish, but good deals could continue to dwindle if this becomes mainstream. Also, I'm concerned the show will portray couponers in a horrible light -- as if we're all crazy obsessed hoarders. "Normal" isn't exactly entertaining. "Crazy", however, gets people tuned in. :(

I'm nervous about it because I just started couponing 2 years ago and have been able to stockpile (not extreemly, just smartly) to save my family of 6 money. I hate it when a few couponers are so crazy that they make all couponers look greedy.

I have been seriously couponing for a couple of years now. I have shared my knowledge and handed out printed material to help others get started. When I shop at WAGS, CVS, Target, store employees are still amazed by my savings. When I ask them how they are doing they say they don't really have time, their printer is out of ink, the ran out of paper, etc., etc. Sooo, I truly beleive that the TLC show will encourage some to get on board; and at the same time my experience tells me that most will not enjoy the savings of truly dedicated coupon shoppers.

Hmmm, I didn't even know there was such a show! I will probably watch out of curiosity. It will be interesting to see if they portray extreme couponing as a way of smart shopping or as crazy extreme "horders".

Well said, leskatspr! Abusing a system is not the right way to build a stockpile (or hoard, in the case of those on the TLC show).

like the biggest loser or organizing programs some will come on board but most will just find it interesting but not attainable.. I'm not worried. I use coupons responsibly and will continue to do so, If I can't get something free or cheap I'll get a rain check or say oh well.. the sale will come around again. ( I am still waiting for the dishwashing tabs deal to come around!)Idon't think this show should be a big concern..but i will watch!

I was worried that this would have an impact on store's coupon policies and whatnot, but then I got curious and looked up information on when the show was filmed. Seems as though they filmed sometime in September, and Randalls' coupon policy made that big change in November. Not saying they are related, but I do know that that one lady would not have been able to pull off a trip at Safeway for that little oop with the new coupon policy in place.

I don't understand why people get so upset if couponers use a lot of coupons. Why are you not upset with the stores. Why would you take it out on others couponers. Couponers only use 1% of the coupons printed. The stores get a very large check because of couponers. Who else but couponers would empty the shelf at Walgreens with the Celsuius Tea, Walgreens vitamins, or the Zarbee cough medicine or the Everready batteries at Target. No way Glade would have sold all those holiday candles. Don't get mad at the playaz get mad at the game.

Avery, my concern is with the grocery stores that offer double and triple coupons. They do not have to offer that as it comes straight out of their bottom line.
