Bear with Me - Hopefully deal posts will resume tomorrow

I hope everyone enjoyed their break, I know soon I will be heading back to the real world.
I have enjoyed my time off and have done very little deal shopping so I could focus on some things at home and a few things that have been on my to do list since late last year- how to guides to all the stores in the area.
I have promised these and just never taken the time to put this all down on paper.  I have spent the last 36 hours working on that and plan to continue through Tuesday.  After that I hope to have the majority done.
Tomorrow I will be out and about shopping since there are a TON of coupons expiring. If I find anything to report I will post pictures on Facebook and will put together a blog post.  I did hear Target went 70% off today on Christmas but I was out in the middle of nowhere with horribly slow internet so no shopping for me.  Back at it now!  Let me finish these how to guides.

*Ha Ha, bear with me, I have a bear on my head!

Fiesta does not accept internet printed coupons.

That is pretty much what you need to know :D

Kroger 101

Kroger coupon policy can be found here.

You need to sign up for the free loyalty card at Kroger to get the advertised sale prices.
You offer a phone number on your account that acts as an alternate id in the event you don't have your card with you.  At checkout, you can either have cashier scan your card, give cashier your phone number to input or input your phone number on the credit card machine.

Kroger does not double or triple coupons in this region.  All coupons are redeemed at face value.

Kroger has catalina machines at the registers

Kroger does not allow a coupon to be used if the sale makes an item free.  An example is on a bogo sale, you cannot use a coupon on the item that is free in the bogo.  However, Kroger does explicitly state in their FAQ that a bogo coupon is allowed on a bogo sale, making both items free.
Ex: Suave shampoo is on sale for buy one get one free, you grab to and give cashier a buy one get one free coupon. The coupon makes 1 bottle free, the sale makes the 2nd bottle free.

Kroger will accept manufacturer coupons with other stores names and logos, like catalina etc, as long as they sale the item listed on the coupon.

Kroger pharmacy will accept competitor pharmacy coupons

Kroger will accept internet printed coupons with the following exceptions:
printable coupons having a value higher than 75% of the item price
Free printable coupons (no purchase required)

According to their policy, they accept coupons that exceed the value of the product and apply the overage to your basket purchase, or in the event the total goes negative, they are supposed to give you cash back.

Kroger offers loadable coupons to their card via their website here.
Most coupons offered are manufacturer coupons and cannot be combined with paper manufacturer coupons.  The exceptions to this are pretty obvious as they are usually $ amount off a certain department.
EX: Save $5 on Seafood, min. $20 purchase required.

You need to load the coupons to your card and they will apply at register upon check out.

If you load a coupon for an item to your card, it will automatically come off at the point of sale.  If you hand over a paper coupon, the register will reject the paper coupon.  Currently per their FAQ of digital coupons, your electronic coupon will take precedence even if your paper coupon is a higher value.  You would need to remove the digital coupon from your card to use your paper coupon.
Digital coupons are not eligible on close-out items on sale as "managers special" or if the value of the coupon exceeds the purchase price of the product.

Kroger will allow 1 store coupon and 1 manufacture coupon per item.  It is not very often you will find a store coupon for a particular item other then their own brand.

Kroger also participates in Upromise loadable coupons (details on that here), SavingStar (detail on that here), and ibotta app (details here).

Kroger has two types of clearance items.  The first is straight forward and priced on the shelf with a tag that says close out.  These are usually an item they are no longer going to carry and thus should be found in all stores.

The second is with manager special stickers over the barcode of the product, this is typically for damaged boxes, short dated product or holiday merchandise and will typically vary per store.

Kroger allows coupons on both types of clearance or marked down items.

Also, Kroger participates in a gas rewards program.  For each $1 spent in store, you earn 1 point toward fuel discounts.  Once you reach 100 points, that is a .10 discount per gallon of gas on a single fuel up, up to 35 gallons.
Purchase of participating gift cards will earn you 2 points for each $1 spent. Every prescription also earns you 50 points toward your fuel rewards.
Your $ spent is based after Kroger coupons but before manufacturer coupons.
Maximum savings of $2/gallon.

Kroger also has a scan right guarantee.  If an unmarked item scans differently from the shelf tag at time of purchase, you will receive one of that item free. *Item limit $25 retail, excludes beer, wine and tobacco products.

Randalls 101

Randalls is a chain of Safeway and thus shares their main coupon policy with them.  You can find that policy here.

You need to sign up for the free loyalty card at Randalls to get the advertised sale prices.
You offer a phone number on your account that acts as an alternate id in the event you don't have your card with you.  At checkout, you can either have cashier scan your card, give cashier your phone number to input or input your phone number on the credit card machine.
You will want to offer your card BEFORE you hand over any coupons, as they will not double or triple if card is not scanned prior to coupon scan.

Randalls will double 1 like coupon up to .50 and triple 1 like coupon up to .39 in a transaction.

Randalls has catalina machines at the registers

Randalls does not allow a coupon to be used if the sale makes an item free.  An example is on a bogo sale, you cannot use a coupon on the item that is free in the bogo

Randalls will accept manufacturer coupons with other stores names and logos, like catalina etc, as long as they sale the item listed on the coupon.

Randalls will accept internet printed coupons with the exception of printed coupons for free items (no purchased required)

Randalls offers loadable coupons to their card via their Just4U program.  - you can read a more extensive post on that here, but here is the abridged version.
J4U offers loadable coupons and pricing offers to your card via their webpage or their mobile app.  You load the offers to your card and they will apply at register upon check out.  You can even load coupons while you are shopping and they will come off at checkouts.
There are various offers, such as $ amount off coupons, % off coupons, and personalized pricing.
Some of the $ amount off coupons are store coupons and some are manufacturer.  You can combine a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon but there is yet a proven fail safe way to find out prior to checkouts which is a store and which is a manufacturer coupon on J4U*.
% off coupons are always store coupons and thus can be combined with personalized pricing AND manufacturer coupons.  Personalized pricing is special pricing that can be cheaper than the current shelf or sale price for that item.  These are based partly on your spending habits but some are also universal. The value of personalized pricing can also vary from person to person. For example: once I had .39/lb pricing on bananas but a friend had .42/lb.  So keep in mind, not all will have the same J4U offers as you have.

If you load a coupon for an item to your card and it is a manufacturer coupon, it will automatically come off at the point of sale.  If you hand over a paper coupon, the register will either reject the paper coupon(if it is a lower value) or accept the paper coupon and remove the electronic coupon from that transaction.  Loadable coupons never double or triple, so sometimes a paper coupon is definitely better, but the register is programmed to give you the best deal.

Randalls ad also has in ad coupons which are store coupons you can combine with manufacturer paper coupons. In the event you have loaded a store coupon that is also in the ad, the register will kick out the electronic coupon and accept the paper coupon in its place (same coupon value).
There is a slight perk to having an in ad coupon also be a loadable coupon.  In the event the coupon has a limit restriction, you can double that limit in a single transaction by loading the electronic coupon in addition to handing over the paper coupon.
Ex: There is a loadable and in-ad coupon for Kelloggs cereal for $.99 with a limit of 3.  If you were to grab 6 Kelloggs cereal you can have the electronic coupon apply to the first 3 and the paper coupon apply to the remaining 3.  This comes in handy when you are trying to do a catalina deal or you are trying to reach a spending threshold.

Based on Randalls coupon policy, spending thresholds for rewards are calculated AFTER all Club card savings and store coupons but BEFORE manufacturer coupons.  The exception items are fluid dairy or dairy substitutes, alcohol, postage stamps, gift cards, tobacco, prescriptions, money orders, park tickets, hunting license etc
Ex: Randalls is offering a free loaf of bread with a minimum $10 purchase.  Your purchase without any savings is $12.  There is a 1.75 club card (or store coupon) discount and you have $1 manuf. coupon.  your out of pocket would be $9.25 but since they don't count the $1 manuf coupon against your total for the free bread offer, you are at  $10.25 for the promo giving you the free loaf of bread.

Randalls also participates in Upromise loadable coupons (details on that here) ,the endorse app and the ibotta app.

Another thing to understand is Randalls clearance, they have a few ways to clearance items.  The first is straight forward, they will just change the ring up price on the product or "reduce for quick sale".
The second is with 50 or 75% off stickers on products
Here is a picture of the 50% tags, 75% are green.  The item will ring up at the current shelf price and then when they scan the 50% off tag, it will take half off the price.  You can use manufacturer coupons on top of that and specialized pricing can take effect.

If is very possible to get paid to purchase items at Randalls after store coupon, manufacturer coupon and possibly personalized pricing.

Also, Randalls participates in a gas rewards program.  For each $1 spent in store, you earn 1 point toward fuel discounts.  Once you reach 100 points, that is a .10 discount per gallon of gas on a single fuel up, up to 25 gallons.
Purchase of participating gift cards will earn you 2 points for each $1 spent. Every $1 spent in the pharmacy also earns you 1 point toward your fuel rewards.
Your $ spent is based after Randalls coupons but before manufacturer coupons.
Maximum savings of $2/gallon.

Randalls also has a price right guarantee.  If an unmarked item scans differently from the shelf tag at time of purchase, you are to get the first of that item free and any additional quantity at the price marked.  There are some exclusions including alcohol and tobacco, and I believe there is an upper limit to the value (waiting on verification from Randalls)

Foodarama 101

Foodarama has 10 locations in and around the Houston area. Find the store nearest you here.
Foodarama coupon policy can be found here.

Foodarama does not accept competitor coupons

Foodarama does issue store coupons that can be combined with manufacturer coupons.  When you see a statement in the ad about an in store coupon, those are typical store coupons.

Foodarama will accept internet printed coupons.

Foodarama's online policy states they have a right to limit quantities at their discretion.

Foodarama is very straightforward shopping when it comes to couponing.

Food Town 101

Food Town has about 26 locations in and around the Houston area.  Find out if you are close to one here.

Food Town coupon policy can be found here.

Food Town does not double or triple coupons

Food Town will accept internet printed coupons but they have to be valued $2 or less

Food Town's online policy states they have a right to limit quantities of coupons, in most stores I have been in, they have a posted policy that limits 6 like coupons.

If you are not close enough to a Food Town to be already on their ad mailing list, you can get on the mailing list by going to the customer service booth and filling out a form, or sending an email to clientdirect@yahoo.com.
In subject line write: Food Town AD
Include your name
Address, City State Zip
Food Town location you shop

The homemailer ad always has a store coupon for an item on sale that week.  You can combine this store coupon with a manufacturer coupon for added savings.  This coupon is NOT found in the instore ad.  It does have a minimum purchase requirement to use, usually $10.

Food Town usually has really great produce prices

Select Food Town stores do have catalina machines at the registers, but be sure to check before trying a catalina deal there as not all stores carry the machines.

HEB 101

Heb coupon policy can be found here.

Heb accepts manufacturer coupons with the following exceptions:
Invalid Start Date (coupon offer has not started- this happens sometimes when you get early edition papers)
Expired coupons
Competitor coupons without "manufacturer coupon" printed on the coupon
Coupons without a barcode
Coupons listed as counterfeit on the CIC website.

Heb does not double or triple coupons so all coupons are redeemed at face value

Heb offers a variety of coupons in store - referred here as YQ (yellow coupon due to their color)

You will need multiple YQs if you are purchasing multiple products.
EX: If you want two of something, just like paper coupons, you need a yellow coupon for each.

There is no stated limit of how many like coupons you can use in HEB policy so you just need to follow the terms written on the coupon

There is no stated rule against using coupons on clearance items at HEB

*Manager does have the right to refuse any coupon for any reason

Heb has no scan right guarantee offering a free product so if something rings up incorrectly, tell your cashier and they will adjust the price down to the displayed price.

Lesson #5 - How to coupon - Shopping!

For those readers, just joining me, please read lesson 1 - 4 before this one.

Now you are ready to shop!

Start SLOW!  If you try to do all stores at once you will become overwhelmed and possibly confused since each store has their own programs, coupon policies and procedures.

Start with one or two stores at a time and once you have mastered those, move on to the next store.  I suggest saving Walgreens for last seeing as they have become the most confusing to shop in our region.

Before you go out shopping, browse the store circulars you receive in the mail, the paper or online.  It helps to know what is on sale ahead of going to the store so you can be sure to pull those coupons and have them ready for your trip.

This is also a great time to decide what store(s) you will consider shopping for the deals you would like.  For example, many times the smaller grocery chains (Seller Bros, Food Town, Foodarama) have GREAT produce prices.  If you don't want to hit all those stores for a few items each, learn what items you can price match at Target and/or Walmart to save you extra stops.

Make a list -
Going in the store with your list in hand is a great way to save money.  Don't allow the grocery store to win with the tricks they pull on unsuspecting shoppers.  Grocery stores are there to make money and they will use many marketing tactics to get as much of your money during your visit as they can.  Stick to your list and don't fall for the "impulse buys".

BUT, don't walk into your store with blinders on either.  Make sure to check out the clearance section as you might be able to score a free item with coupon.  Many stores will discount open or "damaged" packages.  The HEB closest to me will mark cereal 50% off if the box is banged up.  You can see the bag inside the box is 100% intact why not buy that box?  Even without a coupon, that is 50% savings just by checking the clearance section.

Keep an eye out for tearpads and blinkies while you are there.  Even if it is an item you never thought you'd buy, grab one or two, you might just use them or you will have them available for trade.

Finally SMILE!  Couponing can get very frustrating and that is why it is so important to know coupon policies of the stores you shop.  Cashier's are not always aware of the coupon policies so you might have to explain it to them.  Smiling and speaking with a normal range tone of voice goes a long way to getting issues remedied.  I know I tend to be more responsive to someone asking me politely then someone yelling at me and telling me I am stupid.  Save your rant and yelling for your coupon bud our your spouse to hear about, lol.

Now on to the store guides.
Working on the Store 101 and will post links as soon as I get them posted.

Lesson #4 - How to be a Couponer -When is a deal a deal?

For those readers, just joining me, please read lesson 1 - 3 before this one.

Start a price book!

Whether you keep this in your head, in your smart phone or written down, if you don't know what you are currently paying for items, how will you know what is and is not a deal.

Keep in mind what is a deal for some people might not be great for you.  Don't trust a blogger (including me!) to tell you what is and isn't a deal, this is what your price book is for!  Sure Blogger X says wow, print this coupon, then run to Walmart to pick up this Glade spray for .25.
Great price agreed, but if your allergies won't allow you to use air fresheners, why waste that .25 on a can?  Buying anything you don't need is NOT saving and is not the deal for you.  There is ONE huge exception to buying things you won't use.  If they are 100% free and the coupon is going to just go to waste otherwise, by all means pick up that free item and donate it to someone who can use it.

Another deal, Blogger Y says wow, toothpaste for just $1 a tube, RUN!  Well if your price book says you only pay .50 a tube, I would hope you would pass on that deal.

One thing to note is that you will need to break down the price by a comparison unit so you can compare different size packaging to determine if it is your buy price.

BASICALLY - Know you prices by a comparison unit.

Ex: Package of diapers - know your PER diaper price so you can compare the Jumbo back to the boxed packs.

Wipes - know your per wipe price, I know I won't pay more than .01 a wipe so if that 76 count goes on sale, it better cost me under .75 to even get me interested.

Toilet Paper - this is a tricky one, some people use the per sheet price but you can't always know that figure without physically looking at a package(and it can and will change over time).  For this reason I like to use the per roll pricing, for double roll packages I double the number - so a 12 pack double roll I calculate as being 24 rolls.  If you are not brand loyal to your toilet paper then keep in mind you can typically pick up a 4 pack at Walmart for ~$1 so anything more than .25 a roll seems excessive to me.

I can add more examples for those that would like, just leave questions in comments or email me.

Also, this is a great time to determine how brand loyal you are and to what products.  The more products you add to your "any brand" list the more you will save overall.  There is nothing wrong with being brand loyal, but it will cost you extra on that item(we still have about 5-6 items in our house that we are extremely brand loyal).

Endorse - A new Grocery shopping app- get cash back and school donation

Here we have another HOT shopping app, like ibotta,  that pays you back simply by buying groceries already on your list! endorse is available on iphone as well as the droid market.  What is really awesome about endorse is that they will accept receipts from almost ANY US retailer, including online.
Simply go here and sign up.  The current offers are good through January 2nd.  After those expire, a new set of offers will be posted.  Just upload your receipts, no more than 6 days old, to submit for the offers.  And for a limited time, if you upload 10 receipts, endorse will donate $5 to your local schools.

I have already uploaded 2 receipts, first was confirmed within 24 hours, the second I just submitted.  Super easy, one for a frozen meal, one for Planters peanut butter and one for 50% savings for champagne or beer purchase.

Heb - A few deals a coupon friend found today

My friend Debbie was out and about again today and snapped a few really good pictures of some more deals (I am so grateful she is taking the time to do this since I have not been shopping as much lately).

She snapped this picture of Keebler Club crackers for $2 at HEB
If you have the $1.50 coupon that makes them $0.50 after coupon and a .50 Money Maker after submitting receipt on ibotta.

If you don't have the $1.50 printable, you can use the $1/2 in the 12/9 or 11/11 Red Plum.
You will pay $3 at the register but will get back $1 from ibotta making them $1 a box. (a decent price if you are out if stock)

This skin care set is marked on clearance for $4.99.  You should be able to use the $2 printable for a body wash, bar or tool seeing as this gift set has 2 of the three.  Makes it $2.99.

Debbie also found this clearance Herbal Essence which would be free if you still have any of the $1 blinkies that were out.  If you store does not have any clearance, you can get the full price items for $1.28 each but if you do the limit of 4 likes(per manuf coupon) that puts you up to $11.12 of P&G products for the buy $30 in P&G, get a $10 on your next shopping order.  I hope to check out some pricing and the new P&G coming out Sunday to come up with some cheap scenarios :D

Thanks Debbie again for these great pics you keep snapping.

Pop Tarts will be .48 a box
Also the cereal had $1.50 printables for .18 for a big bag of Pops or BEST yet the Rice Krispies

What coupons I am printing and why.

Some good coupons available right now for printing, here is what is on my printer:

$3/2 Aveeno products coupon -
starting Sunday CVS will have the larger products on sale for $4.99
Buy 2 get $6 ECB so you could get 2, use 1 coupon and get them both for .98 total (7-12 oz bottles lotion or 3.5-7.3 oz cream)
*my mailed ad says the ecb deal excludes 3 oz and below
*Week after (starting 1/6) has same deal but seems to say just Aveeno so would work on smaller assuming there is inventory left after next week

*Target has them free right now when you buy 3
3 @ $2.99 get $5 gift card, use 1 $3/2 and 1 $1 but you can only use the 10/28 SS inserts for that deal because ip excludes these smaller ones

Buy 2 Get 1 Free Digiornio coupon
Right now Randalls has them 2/$10. You might have cheaper personalized pricing through J4U.
If not, buy 3 with coupon cost at register will be $10 (possibly cheaper if they let the coupon auto deduct max value) Then earn a $2 catalina, making each pizza about $2.66
*I hear rumors this cat also prints at Kroger but I don't know their pricing.

$1 off Soft Scrub cleaner
Week of 1/6 at CVS Soft Scrub will be $2
Use this $1 printable and the $1 SavingStar loadable to make it free

$0.75 Planters Nut-rition peanut butter
Reports these are found at Dollar Tree for $1. Coupon makes them $.25, then you can get 50% back on purchase price for submitting your receipt on Endorse, making it just .13 a jar.

$2/2 Right Guard Total Defense Deodorant
Some are finding clearance at Walgreens and combining with Wags monthly coupon booklet coupon making them about .40 but I like also having these on hand for CVS and Wags deals that pop up too.

$1 Coffeemate creamer
Many stores are starting to put the holiday flavors on clearance so possibly free soon

$1.50 Gevalia coffee coupon
There is a $3 loadable on Randalls J4U that is a store coupon so can be stacked making for $4 savings
I am not sure shelf price but this should make it at least half off, possibly more.

Thanks SD for a few of these

Food Town Ad - Dec 26th - January 1st

Food Town has about 26 locations in and around the Houston area.  Find out if you are close to one here.

If you are, you can either shop in store, or take your ad to Walmart to price match.
You can get on their home mailer list by stopping in at your store and asking at the service desk to be added to the mailing list.  Then, you should get a 2 page homemailer every week.  In this mailer is a coupon good for a deal of the week that can be combined with manufacturer coupons for added savings.

Food Town does NOT double or triple coupons and it is store policy to adjust the coupon down to the value of the item.  Most locations have a posted policy that states a limit of 6 like coupons.

Free Magazine Subscriptions through Wrapp and Fab

I talked about the new app Wrapp a couple days ago on this post, and here I am again with another GREAT deal from that app.
Get your friends to send you the free $10 gift card to Fab.com and you can score yourself a free magazine subscription to several different magazines. I opted for 2 years of Family Circle for free, but there were TONS of magazines to choose from that are under $10 like
Popular Science
Maxim
GQ
Field and Stream
Vibe
Fitness and
Paula Dean
just to name a few.

Just get a friend to send you the gift card then use the link to fab.com from the Wrapp app and it will allow you to use your credits for the purchase.  Even though your total is nothing, it does ask for a credit card but you can opt for it not to save it for future orders.

Thanks SD

Heb - A few decent finds

Sorry for the delay in posting the findings at HEB but here is what I have found for the week.
These 8 packs of AA batteries are $6.37 at my local store.  Use the $2.50 off M yellow coupon to bring the cost down to $3.87 each.  When you buy 2 specially marked packs of the 8 count with the Toy Cash, you can enter the codes here to get back $8 rebate, limited to 4 reward offers per household.
Since it is all online it does not cost a stamp and you can request paypal payment making this a small moneymaker.

While there are no mainstream manuf coupons on this, you might have some formula checks or coupons from your doctor's office you can combine with this B YQ to make for a discount on this ready to use formula.
If you love Tresemme and happened to find any of the $2/2 tearpads at Kroger, this would make these HUGE bottles as low as $1.52 each if your store has them on clearance as well.

John Frieda has a HOT B yellow coupon for $2 off any hair care item (excludes trial size)  I noticed these brilliant Burnette on clearance for $3.51. Combine the yellow coupon with the $1 insert from 10/7 Smart Source insert to get them as low as $0.51 OR for you Frizz Ease Lovers
combine with the $2 insert to get them for just $0.78.

Heb also had a Clear Scalp therapy on clearance for $3.51 with a buy one get 1 free M yellow coupon. You might have this as one of you items on ibotta app to get $1.75 back making two just $1.76 or $0.88 each.

And finally, this $5 off $10 Nature Made product B yellow coupon.  Combine with $2 coupon from January All You magazine or these ip's
$2 off Nature made vitamin B
$2 off Nature made fish oil (might need to change zip code to 77477 for these)

$9 Money Maker at Randalls

Randalls has added a new offer to Just 4 U that is essentially a $9 moneymaker.  Just go to J4U and add this Save $15 when you purchase $100 in Mastercard gift cards coupon to your card.  Then go to Safeway and purchase a $100 Mastercard.  You will have to pay a $5.95 activation fee but then will get $15 off, so your transaction should look like this:
$100 card
$5.95 activation fee
-$15 promo
=$90.95 oop but you end up with a Mastercard worth $100
A profit of $9.05!  I often do these because then I can use these cards anywhere to buy my groceries, supplies etc.
