Entertainment Books- Hidden savings

I get asked quite often how I save money on family activities. Well, one way I save is by purchasing the Entertainment book for Houston and taking advantage of the coupons offered. I typically buy a book from the Boy Scouts for their fundraisers, but when I miss that opportunity, I purchase directly from Entertainment.
Right now, they are providing the opportunity to get their 2009 book free just for preordering the 2010 book. With summer here, I know you will find several activities coupons that will save you tons of money.
Julie(admin at HCW) has created a wonderful FREE ebook on how to maximize your savings when using the entertainment book. Just go here and click the download. Then, go order your 2010 book so you can get started on saving.

You can even put in your zipcode and review the coupons that are in the book before you purchase it. My husband and I like trying some of the restaurants we would have never tried without coupons. We have found some great non chain restaurants that we have enjoyed.
Note: If you preorder, they will keep you on the list to send you a new book every year until you cancel. There is also a $5 cancellation fee if you cancel in the first year. You will be charged when book ships.

Randalls - shopping the 3 day sale!

Last week in the mail, I finally received one of my Living Well $10 coupons from Catalina Marketing(one of my transactions at Randalls, the machine was not working, so I had to call to get catalina to review and send). I decided to hit Randalls today since they started a 3 day sale and my coupon expires July 1. I was suprised by the amount of reduced meat Randalls had, so I bought a few extra things while there. I also couldn't resist the brisket sale, so decided to splurge a bit today. Here is my breakdown:
5 Poptarts $1.79 each - $5 wyb 5 - 2 $1/2 insert coupons (6-7RP)= $1.95(+ one more free movie ticket)
10 Kelloggs cereal $2.49 each - $10 (2 $5 wyb 5) -10 $1 insert coupons(6-7RP) = $4.90(got enough boxes to get the free Star Trek Flash Drive wristband-thanks Lisa for reminding me Froot Loops is on this promo)
10 Joint Juice $0.80 each - 5 b1g1 free insert(6-7 SS- these scanned at $1.39 each) = $1.05
1 Kraft singles $2.49 - $1.50 = $0.99 with Randalls ad coupon and $20 purchase
5 Eggo mini pancakes $1.99 each - $5 wyb 5 - 5 $1 tearpad coupons(thanks Greenie) = -$0.05
3 Owens 2lb sausage reduced .99 each - 1 $.25 insert tripled(5-17 SS) = $2.22
5 Healthy Ones Honey ham reduced .49 each - 2 .55 insert(6-7SS) - 1 $1 insert(5-17Parade) = $0.35
1 Oscar Mayer center cut bacon reduced $0.99
1 Trimmed beef brisket $10.77 ($1.99/lb, untrimmed is .99/lb for 3 days)
here it gets a little confusing:
6 BallPark franks $0.99 each - 3 $1/2 insert coupons(6-28RP)
2 Sara Lee Hot dogs buns $1.89 each - FREE wyb 2 BP franks tearpad = free
2 Seedless Watermelons $3.50 each - $3 tearpad wyb 1 BP franks and 1 SL buns = $1
-10 Living Well catalina
Tax -.33
Total oop: $16.78
When I went today, I had NO plans to buy the brisket, but it just looked too darn good and my husband loves to grill, so we are having that for dinner tonight and using the rest for sandwiches and such the rest of the week!

Don't miss these extra coupons in your Sunday Paper

You probably already got the two inserts that came in this weeks paper. Well, before you toss that paper in the recycle bin, be sure to check for extra coupons you might have missed.
I got two Kroger supplements and the Parade is chock full of coupons this week. One of the Kroger inserts has a $20 gift card with transferred prescription coupon. These are GREAT coupons that I tend to use at CVS when I am getting my kiddos their medicine. You may want to check Walgreens and CVS around your house, as some will take these transferred prescription coupons for new prescriptions.
In the Parade, there are several coupons for Covergirl, a couple Cottonelle, and 1 for Bit O Luv dog treats.

Pop tarts, free movie tickets and Randalls

Randalls has a sale on pop tarts this week. Buy 5 and get them from .99 each. Single price is supposed to be $1.99 each. They ring up full price and then the register takes off $5 for each 5 you buy. Well, for some reason, the store I went to they rang up $1.79 and then after 5 the $5 came off, so they were really .79 a box! Coupled with my $1/2 coupons, I really scored. What is even better, is I found 20 boxes with the special Kelloggs movie ticket promotion so I also earned 4 free movie tickets.
They also have a sale on Joint Juice. Purchase 10 in one transaction and get them for .80 each. I found I still had some $1 manuf coupons and my dad really likes this stuff(says it does make his joints feel better and his dr recommended Glucosamine for him)
Here is my breakdown:
20 pop tarts 1.79 each - $20(4 line items of $5 off) - 10($1/2 coupons from 6/7 RP)= $5.80
10 Joint Juice $8 - $10($1 coupons from 4-26SS - last coupon beeped but cashier pushed it through) = -$2
$3.80
Tax .31
Total cost $4.11 for 20 boxes of poptarts, 10 Joint Juice and 4 free movie tickets!

Cvs Toothpaste suprise

My sister asked me to take her card to CVS and use her $10/50 since she would not use it before it expired. I went first to grab some more glucose monitors to boost my total and I noticed a special endcap full of Crest toothpaste. This store had it all for only .80 each(all have date of Nov 2010)! I ran back out to my car and grabbed my coupons and got the following:
3 Freestyle Lite Glucose monitors $9.99 each - $9.99 manuf coupons
1 Aunt Jemima syrup $3.59 (my kids needed some for their Kashi waffles, lol)
22 Crest Pro Health 4.2 oz toothpaste $0.80 each - $.50 manuf from P&G insert
-$10/50 purchase
Paid $0.19 on gift card from prescription refill.
Looks like my inlaws are getting Crest in their stockings this year, lol

Chick Fil A photo contest and events

I went to the Chick Fil A website to search for the local Luau as each franchise picks different days. Well, I stumbled upon a photo contest they are having. I entered my daughter Sara's picture of her first Halloween dressed as the Chick Fil A cow. As you guys know I LOVE Chick Fil A and I would LOVE to be a finalist for this contest. If you like my kiddos picture, please cast a vote to help me to be one of the 20 finalist! You can vote once per email address. They send you an email to verify your vote and that is it! You can go here and vote for Sara Eat Mor Chikin!

Concerning the Luau:
June 24th, Wednesday 5pm-8pm the Katy Chick Fil A on Mason Road is having theirs. Same promotion as the Cinco Ranch had last week (see my previous post). Kids dressed in Hawaiian attire get free kids meals.

June 25th, Thursday 5pm-8pm the Mission Bend Chick Fil A on Hwy 6 is having their Hawaiian Luau. Not sure the activities involved in this one, but kids eat free if dressed in Hawaiian attire.

Check your local Chick Fil A location for participation!

CVS transaction - $1.26 OOP

I ran into a CVS today to get my last gallon of milk to qualify for the unadvertised deal of buy 5 gallons get one free. Went to the scanner first to see if it would give me any coupons and it gave me one: $10 off a purchase of $50 or more. I have not gotten one of these in ages, so it was burning a whole in my hand(lol). Well, went back to the pharmacy and they had a ton of the Freestyle Lite monitors that are on sale this week for $9.99. I still have $9.99 coupons for these from the 5-17SS so I did the following:
4 Freestyle Lite monitors $9.99 each - $9.99 coupon
1 milk $2.69
1 Natures Own bread $2.59
1 Tropicana OJ $4.49
1 Dr pepper 20 oz $1.49
-$10/50 coupon
Total oop(on gift card from prescriptions) $1.26 and in two days, I should qualify for my free gallon of milk for buying 5 during the promotional period.

Walgreens run

I got happiness in my mailbox today(Saturday) so had to make a quick trip to Walgreens. My great trader friend Mike sent me some $1 off Oreo Cakesters coupons since I didn't get any papers the week they came out(I know lazy me). Anyway, went to Walgreens since they have a promo right now, buy 2 Cakesters at $5, get a $3 RR. With the $1 coupons that makes the cakesters FREE!. Of course, I wanted to use my St. Ives $3 RR to pay so I had to find a filler item. For two transactions, I bought these Spiderman coloring books on clearance for .50 each. These will make a great stocking stuffer for my nephews. My cost on both those transactions were .50 after the 2 $1 cakesters coupons and my $3 catalinas.
I stopped at one more Walgreens on my way home and got two more cakesters and found two packages of Pull Ups on clearance for $2.89 each. I used one $2 coupon and one $1.50 coupon(both home mailers) and spent $5.47 oop(no RR used this transaction) and got back $3 for the cakesters.
* I believe the cakester deal still goes for one more week, so you still have time to take advantage of this great free deal!

Dawn deal at Target

I have been reading about a Dawn deal at Target with the Dawn Pure Essentials dish soap. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to Target until today(Saturday-the last day of the sale). Turns out it worked to my advantage though. Target has the Dawn Pure Essentials on sale for $2.09 a bottle. Coupled with the $1.50 coupon from the most recent P&G insert, that makes it just $0.59 a bottle. Well, today I got my Sunday Early Edition papers and inside were .50 off Dawn Target coupons. Since Target will take one Target and one manufacturer coupon, I got 8 bottles for just .09 each! (The Target coupons did beep but cashier agreed I could use them since they just said .50 off Dawn or Mr Clean)
So here is my breakdown:
8 Dawn Pure Essentials $2.09 - $1.50 manuf- .50 Target = .09 each
14 Cottonelle moist wipes .99 each - $1 Target 6-7SS(adjusted down)= FREE
1 banana (not pictured since my little one ate it) .20
Total : $0.98

*The Dawn will be going back up to full price of $2.59 tommorrow, so still only $0.59 a bottle. These are 24 oz bottles!

CVS money maker deal-Reported Dead deal now

This week CVS has an ECB deal on Style Science sunglasses. It is supposed to give you $10 wyb two sunglasses, but Jenny at SouthernSavers found out it is triggering the ECB deal on these Lens Cleaning tissues that are priced at .99. These are really small packets (~4x5) and you may have to scour the stores high and low to find them.
My total was $1.98 and I paid with a $2 ecb and got back $10, woo hoo! The upc number on the packages I purchased is 83018 00550 and the limit is one offer per card. Good luck and happy hunting. My husband was excited I finally got him something to clean his glasses with, lol.
Read Jenny's blog for other qualifying products.
THERE ARE REPORTS COMING IN THAT THIS DEAL IS NOW DEAD.

Sweet Suprise at Randalls! $0.06 Transaction

I have been using loadable coupons at Kroger now for several months with great success. Well, Randalls has finally climbed aboard the loadables game and boy am I glad they did! Today I got an interesting suprise when ALL my loadables came off my items. With Kroger, you only get one loadable off per qualifying purchase, but with Randalls, it appears they all come off when you purchase 1 of that participating item. WOW!!!!!!!!

Here is my breakdown from todays shopping:
1 Lucky Charms $2.50 - .55 cellfire - .60 shortcuts - .50 IP doubled = $0.35
1 BC Warm Delights $2.19 - .50 cellfire - .50 cellfire - .50 shortcuts - .50 IP doubled = -$0.31
6 Yoplait cups .60 each - .50 cellfire - .60 shortcuts - .50 IP doubled = $1.50
1 Yo Plus Yogurt $2.50 - $1 cellfire - $1 shortcuts - $1 IP = -$0.50
1 Colgate Total closeout $1.49 -.75 cellfire -.75 cellfire - $1 insert 6-7SS = -$1.01
Tax .03
Total OOP $0.06

After todays experience, I highly recommend going to cellfire and shortcuts and loading up your cards! You might not have as many coupons available right now as I did since I had some older ones on my card. However, if you load them now, you will have no regrets later!

Walgreens RR deal

If you have not heard by now, Walgreens has a St Ives body wash promotion going this week. Buy one body wash for $2.99 and get a $3 RR back. Since we have $1.50 coupons from 5-10 SS, this becomes a $1.50 money maker. I had 2 $2 RR expiring so I used the Tigger and Pooh color/activity books for my filler. These were on clearance for .75 each. I spent $2 in RR and .26 oop on each of my two transactions, and got back $3 each time.

Free Movies on Tuesday and Wednesday Mornings

I know I am posting this a little late for this week, but I don't pay much attention to these promos since they are not made for parents who work normal business hours. But for those of you that read my blog that have more family friendly hours and a theatre near you, this post is for you!

REG’s Free Family Film Festival is Now Showing! When school’s out, kids around the country visit selected Regal theatres for the Free Family Film Festival. It’s a fun-filled nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Since 1991, Regal has provided this service to the community, and best of all it’s FREE!
Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer.
Tickets for our 2009 Free Family Film Festival are exclusively available at select theatres’ box office on the day of the show.
Just go to the website and select your state to find a participating theatre.

CVS Aveeno Promotion

This week CVS has an Aveeno promotion going on. Spend $20 on Aveeno products and get back $10 in ECBS. I found these 3 tubes of Aveeno Positively Ageless lotion on sale for $7 each. I was able to use a $10/3 printable for any Aveeno Positively Ageless product and a $10 ecb to get this for $1.07 OOP.

Half Price books Week 2

Went back to Half Price books yesterday with the logs for week 2 of the reading club. Reading the fine print of the coupon, you don't actually have to spend $3. They will adjust the coupon down if your purchase is lower. Well, my oldest picked out these Scooby Doo flash cards that help teach addition and subtraction. With the $3 coupon, we got them free.

Here we gave my daughter tokens to use as visuals to help her with the subtraction lesson. She played for an hour and would have played longer if we didn't make her stop for bedtime.

Luau night at Chick Fil A in Katy

Cinco Ranch Chick Fil A (Westheimer Parkway and Grand Parkway) is having a Moo-au Luau Tuesday night. Dress your kiddos up in grass skirts and bring them to this fun family event. Each child dressed in Hawaiian attire will receive a free 4 count nugget kids meal. Lots of fun activities to keep the whole family entertained!
Thanks Harmony from Katy Money Savvy Moms for this information.

Crocs at Big Lots

I noticed on Mercedes blog that Big Lots was selling Crocs for $10 a pair. Since I couldn't find my size on the last deal on the Crocs website, I decided to go to the Big Lots up the street from my office for my lunch break. They had a very limited selection, but I was able to find these Minnie Janes and they were in fact $10 plus tax. My kids like these shoes so much, I decided to break down and finally get a pair myself. If you have a Big Lots nearby, you may want to stop in and check(the store I went to had a very limited supply, but did have kids Spongebob and some various styles for women)

Sears $50 Fathers Day Promo

Now through June 21st Sears is running a promotion on mens clothing. From June 7th -21st you just need to purchase $50 worth of pants or jeans in the mens department. Apply for the rebate either online or via postal mail and you will get a $50 voucher to use in the future in the Mens Apparal department. This is like having a 50% off sale to me. Read the details here.

Since my husband was telling me he needed some new pants anyway, I was happy to stumble upon this promotion. We went Sunday and found they have Canyon River Blues jeans on sale for $12.99 right now, so we picked up 4 pairs. When we get the $50 voucher, we will get him some more shirts for work. Good thing he isn't brand loyal on clothing!

Thanks goes to Mercedes for giving me the heads up on this deal.

$15 in Science Diet Light coupons

I got an email that shows I can sign up to download $15 in coupons for Science Diet Light at Petco. I am not sure if this is multiple coupons or one large coupon as I am not able to print IP coupons at work. Hopefully this will help some of you with your pet care needs.

Some Kroger finds

I was at Kroger getting my usual freebies and cheap Kraft cheese when I stumbled upon a deal that seemed pretty good to me. Kroger is clearancing out Apple Strudel and Vanilla Milkshake Pop Tarts for $1.25. Some are specially marked with Free Movie Pass vouchers. It says Star Trek, but if you read the back of the box, you will receive a ticket for ANY movie at a participating theater. You need 5 vouchers from the box and the official order form printed inside the box. So the breakdown would be as follows:
$1.25 x 5 = $6.25
- 2 ($1 off 2 coupons from 6-7RP)
- 1 loadable from Bringing Hope to the Table*
= $3.25
(If you buy 6 boxes, you can use one extra $1/2 coupon and it will only cost .25 more)
Now for the additional cost of the stamp, you mail in and get back a emoviecash certificate for a free movie(up to $12 vaule)
That is far cheaper than even matinee prices AND you get Pop Tarts too!
(You can send out for 5 certificates per household but they all must be mailed in separate envelopes.)
*My loadable coupon did not come off my order so I need to contact the website to find out why.

I also read on HCW that Kroger was clearancing out Post Trail Mix Crunch for $2.51. Print this $2 coupon and get it for $0.51. (you can print 2 coupons) It looks good and I can't wait to snack on it! Thanks to ljthumper20 for posting this find.

Clothes at Walmart

I read on HCW that people were finding Garanimals at their local Walmart on clearance for $1. On my way home yesterday I stopped in for a look and found the items in the picture above. Not all the items were Garanimals, and most were not marked at $1 yet, but they all rang up for just $1. I was able to get my kiddos 4 t-shirts, 2 cardigans and 2 pair of shorts for $8.66 after tax.

My outtings today

Alright, the girls finished week one of the Half Price Books reading club so we ventured out to get them their $3 savings cards. Since I was going anyway, I took 4 magazines to sell. I let the girls pick out a book each and they chose Scooby Doo(1.98 each). I found a Narnia book on clearance for $1 and a board book with blankie for Sara for $2 on clearance.
Total spent .54 (I earned .50 for the 4 magazines I sold)
*Note, these had to be rung in 2 separate transactions since the $3 savings cards cannot be combined.

Ran to Kroger to finish the last of my Reach toothbrush coupons. I also had a couple of Kraft dressing coupons that I needed to use before they expire tommorrow. Here is my breakdown:
3 Glade Warmers $1.99 - free coupons from SC Johnson booklet found at Randalls
4 Kraft dressing $1.69 - $1.50 insert (5-10SS)
3 Lysol Toilet bowl cleaners $1.49 - .50 insert doubled (6-7SS)
2 Reach toothbrush $1 - .50 insert doubled (3-15SS)
2 Packages Pilgrim Pride drumsticks(not pictured) $2.01 each - $2 tearpad wyb 2 Kraft products
1 Vanity Fair magazine $4.95 (OUCH!) I couldn't resist this because of the pictures!
Tax .20
Total paid $7.40

Finally made it to Target. Picked up the following:
1 Lysol Neutra Air $5.99 - $4 insert (5-31SS)
4 Glade Scented oil tin candles $1.67 - $1.50 coupon found inside tin
1 Glade scented oil candle refills $2.99 - free coupon wyb tin (April All You)
2 Glade scented gel $1.99 - free coupons from SC Johnson booklet
1 Kraft mayo $1.99 - $1 printable(no longer available) - $1 Target printable
4 Ziploc storage containers $2.29 - $1 SC Johnson booklet coupon - $1 Target printable
2 Softsoap ensemble $6 - $2 printables - 1 $2 Target printable
Total $9.82 + .34 tax

Spent $10.16 and got back $5 gift card for buying the 2 Softsoap ensembles and will mail in rebate for $4 for the Softsoap(tearpad)

*I asked about the Ziploc since Target coupon says one per transaction. They didn't want to ring up 4 transactions so they did it in one. On the Softsoap, I only used the 1 Target printable because of the wording.(you won't earn the gift card if rung up separate, but I wanted to follow the wording on the coupon)

Kroger finds

Stopped by Kroger today to get some more Countrytime Lemonade but they were out. I picked up a raincheck and checked for other sales. This is what I found:
1 Comfort Baby petroleum jelly .99 - $1 peelie(adjusted down)
2 half gallons Borden Organic milk reduced .99 each - $1/2 blinkie(there is also a current insert coupon)
1 five pound bag Russet Potatoes reduced .99
3 Wholly Salsa $1.99 each
2 Kroger Tortilla chips $1 each
1 bag Chicharrones $1 (definitely for dh!) - $3 *off your favorite chips wyb Wholly Salsa coupon from 4-19 SS
Paid 1.17 for everything

*This coupon is going to be a YMMV(your mileage may vary) situation. The coupon states to save up to $3 on your favorite chips wyb Wholly Salsa, but my cashier entered the full $3 so it made the chips and salsa free.

New cellfire coupons

Today is the day cellfire resets their coupons.
One that stands out to me right away is $.75 when you purchase any (2) Two Knorr Sides product!
These are going to be on sale at Kroger for $1 each starting tommorrow.
Go to cellfire and load your coupons today so you can take advantage of some sales deals when you are at the store. Fortunately, these coupons are free and do not hurt you to have them loaded on your card, even if you end up not using them.
I also see a .50 off Betty Crocker Warm Delights. I know there is one variety that is on closeout at Kroger that might make this a good deal.
ETA: I went at lunch and the Warm Delights Raspberry chocolate variety is on close out for $1.49 so free with loadable and insert coupon from 5-31SS.
Also, there is a $3/2 Huggies coupon on cellfire and today is the last day for the Huggies $3 off promo wyb $15 in Huggies products.
