I am really excited about this new giveaway I have to offer:
Yoplait for Kids wants to remind us that less than 1/2 the kids in America get the right amount of calcium in their diet. Yoplait wants to help by supplying the winners with a free six pack of Yoplait Kids yogurt products (Go-Gurt, Trix, Yoplait Kids) along with a Yoplait Get Active Prize Pack. Yoplait for Kids helps build strong bones, enabling healthy and active bodies. Perfect for a fun-filled day for your active children, the Yoplait Get Active Prize Pack includes a travel cooler (to take your yogurt on the road), a jump rope, a water bottle and an outdoor game set that includes a beach ball, paddle ball, Jai-Ali and a Frisbee. My kids have been really having fun with this kit and I have to say that my kiddos think frozen gogurt is a treat! I am happy because they are getting their calcium and they are happy they think of the frozen yogurt as popsicles! Win Win!
I would like to know what activities you implore at your household to keep your kids active, instead of in front of the tv. I have 3 of these kits to give away and will use randonmizer to decide, however if randomizer picks an entry that sounds like a couch potato, than I have to admit, I will choose a replacement winner! This contest is all about being active and getting out there and stretching your muscles. Tell me how you do that and I will pick 3 winners at 3:50 pm on Wednesday!
So let me hear your active stories and how you get your kids away from the idiot box!

Yeah I am first!! We actively play with the kids and rarely turn on the TV when we are home with them. We try to take the kids out on the weekend so they can run around. We live right next to the park so they get to go out there on most days. We also have family biking trips and walks.
It's actually very easy, yet so frightening to people...........take the TV and put it in the garage/storage or wherever it is not easily accessible and use it for a Friday night treat instead! Kids become very active once the tube is gone. (This includes video games.) My husband takes the kids on bike trails which they love doing! Also we take walks through our wooded property. If we had a TV staring at us all the time, begging us to turn it on, we would never do these things. Also, cancel cable. You would be amazed that you can still cook and decorate your home without those "special" channels. : ). Try it for just 3 months and see how much more active you and your children become.
I make colored chalk for the kids using plaster of paris and dry paint. Let them use the driveway to draw pics and make bike paths. Snail hopscotch is a girlhood favorite of mine that I taught to my own kids. Of course, regular hopscotch is great, too, or what about a game of 4 square?
for my 4 year old bubbles have been a huge activities this year. He will spend hours outside playing with them. We have bubble machines, bubble guns, bubbles that you blow...well you get the picture. I have been amazed how occupied they have kept him!
My little guy is naturally active - it's rare moment when he is not running, climbing or jumping!
We expend energy at the playground, on family walks around the neighborhood, dancing in the living room and playing chase/peek-a-boo.
3 ways we stay active - that's easy!
During the week we play soccer in the driveway after dinner. In the warm weather we swim on the weekends, and we have races to see who can put away their laundry first. It normally involves 3 or 4 trips up and down the stairs so everyone is winded after the race ends.
My kids prefer to be outside, but that's a good thing because we only allow TV to be one hour at night after dinner...at the most. That is IF there is nothing else to do. We have a playground in the back yard that both of the boys can play on, but lately we have been practicing baseball a lot with our oldest (5yrs) and have softer balls for our little one (16 mos) to get involved with us as well. They both love it!
We actually rarely watch tv at our house. We live in a gated community and so most afternoons after work/school we take the 3 kids out (5, 2 and newborn) and let them run around blowing bubbles or riding bikes/trikes until dinner time!
soccer!! soccer!! Soccer is the best sport for young kids. They run, kick, run, and run! Tis far better than standing in a baseball field on the off chance you get to chance a ball!
All three of my kids started out in soccer as 4 yr olds. The oldest has moved on but the other two still play soccer and love to ride bikes, scooters, and skateboards!
We take the dogs on evening walks and we all go as a family. Its nice to be able to walk and talk with my 3 kids to see what they have been up to and such. A nice recollection of the day.
Thank you!

My kids are a little older and are actively enrolled in school and city recreation activities. We do dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, soccer, basketball, etc....
Geocaching! For those of you not familiar with this sport, check out the official website: http://www.geocaching.com/
It's a fantastic opportunity to get outside, explore new interesting places (we've found a ton of tiny "pocket parks" that we never would have known about), and the technological aspect of it (you use a hand held GPS) may help get the kids to drop the video games and pick this up instead!
We are involved in Scouts this is a very active program at least three nights a week. The boys have to be involved in at least one sports program either at school or through the community. We also go to the library 2-3 times per week and take part in many of the programs or events offered there. Its also nice that my boys are older and can ride bikes to the park or a friends house so they don't sit as soon as they come home from school.
since i am a wls patient(gastric bypass ) i am now more active then i can even believe. So we do tons of walking, biking, we cook healthy by teaching the kids to help in the kitchen, We go to the zoo, musesums, we do lots of art things at home. We are also learning how to grow our own herb garden so they help with that. We wash the car together, do housework (they enjoy it they say they are working as a team) . I never watch tv anymore with my jobs and their things they do we stay busy together. Tv is never on only for the news. Have a blessed day Juliet
We take the dog for a walk. We live in a wooded area so we get to see alot of wildlife in our outings.
My kids loved making snow tunnels the winter and since october I took down their little tikes 10 in one climber and put it up in the play room and now they are able to play indoors when it is to cold to go out. Now they are enjoying bubbles and chalk with weather permitting as today it snowed. Crazy huh????
Hubby and I take the 3 kids and 2 dogs for a walk around the pond every evening. We get to talk to each other about our day and the kids usualy ride their bikes or skateboards ahead of us.
I'd love to enter
We have very limited TV time in our house. It's rarely cold enough here to stay indoors all day, so we get outside! We play baseball and soccer as a family. We also have a volleyball net. We like to take family bike rides and take the kids to the park at least every weekend, but sometimes during the week if time/daylight permits. My oldest plays soccer, baseball and basketball at church and we plan to sign the middle one up for tball in a couple of weeks! Thanks for the chance to win!
I have a two year old, that LOVES to play outside, he watches very little tv. we go outside to play on a slide set that has soccer, basketball and football attached to it, so right now it is ALL about basketball. we have also put a small hoop in is room. we have a large yard that he loves to run around constently moving. he doesnt drink milk so we always have a yogart a day, that he loves!!
I joined the Katy YMCA last week -- while I'm exercising, my son attends Child Watch (free with Y membership) -- part of Child Watch includes going to the gym and playing with balls and running around and getting exercise. We also enjoy going to local playgrounds where there are lots of opportunities to get exercise going up and down the slide!
Oh the joys of the living in the country . . .we live at the end of a gravel road so our kids are free to roam all over our small acres. They are all responsible for helping to take care of the animals and when they are not doing that we are participating in many different activities-like baseball, basketball and now cheerleading. The kids play basketball with the hoop in the driveway or there is always the old standby of the trampoline. Summers are spent in as much water as we can. No TV is necessary around here.
we go geochaching, which is a type of treasure hunting. it involves hiking and being active to look for clues.
and since I just read the other entries and saw geocaching listed I am also going to include going to the dog park. it is great for the whole family including the dogs to get outside and run around.
We got a trampoline last year and now our backyard is frequently the hangout for our kids' friends. Unless it's raining, I try to send the kids out every afternoon to play on it, ride bikes, play on the swingset, ride scooters, or just play ball with the neighborhood kids. It's a great way to help them burn off excess energy, get exercise, and get some fresh air and sunshine.

We have started reading more and just spending time together instead of turning on the TV. We are working on the garden, yard, arts and crafts and doing all kinds of fun stuff together.
We don't have TV so that's easy. My toddler loves to play hockey outside or go to the park to play!
My 18 month old is not interested in TV yet. Thank goodness!! She keeps me active by chasing her around everywhere while she gets into everything. She's my first so I chase a lot right now to try to keep her out of trouble. Her grandparents have just put a pool in at their house, which is 7 minutes away. I expect that we will be spending 3-4 days a week in the pool. My DD loves baths and showers already. I know she will love the pool with bubblers and waterfall fountains.
i would love to enter for my ds,ddil and dgd. they go for many walks/hikes and bike rides even though they live in the dc area where it can be cold. they also like to camp out.
