Why my Husband doesn't coupon!

Last year, when we became a homeschooling family with a stay at home dad, I got several comments from friends and coupon buds that said "Oh are you happy that your husband is going to stay home with the kids as well as do all the shopping?"  HA!!!  If only that were fact.
While my husband is an awesome teacher, counselor, daddy taxi, chef and supporter of the girls events, schooling and activities, one area he falls flat on his face is shopping!  Don't get me wrong, he worked in a grocery store for 9 years, so he knows how to get around the store without the "suggested" buys as well as actually finding food we will eat, the problem is NO budget.  If I sent the hubs to do the shopping, he would pay full price and bankrupt us just getting 8 items, lol.  So why you ask doesn't he use coupons?  Simple.  He is a male that HATES shopping and would pay the store not to have a hassle!  Simple case in point

We had to go out of town this weekend for a birthday party and got home in just enough time to unload the car and get back in the car to take my eldest to soccer practice.  The hubs was gonna take her and I was to stay home with the youngest to get her bathed and ready for the week ahead.  Well, on the drive home I realized I had 4 freebie coupons(on the items pictured above) expiring TODAY!  Since I had no plans on going out and I hate losing out on freebies, I asked the hubs if before he came home he would mind running to the grocery store and picking up said free items.
His response:  "So I just go into the store, get these items and the store will give them to me and I come home?"
Me: "Yes"
Him: skeptical look

So after practice he nearly forgets to stop at the store when the eldest says "Daddy weren't we supposed to stop at the store for mommy?"
He re-routes to the store and calls me from the shampoo aisle.
Him: "What Aussie was I supposed to get again?"
Me: " The 3 min miracle, round bottle much smaller than the rest near other conditioner"
Him: "Ok, got it, so what Herbal Essence?"
Me: "Don't care, going to family, they aren't picky, someone will use it"
Him: "ok see you soon"
Me: "Bye"

At this point I assume he is heading to checkouts and done and my phone decided it didn't want to disturb me and took it upon itself to put itself on vibrate(ok, honestly I think the hubs put it on vibrate last night so he would not have to hear the ping everytime I got an email but he won't fess up to it and I went to bed in a drug induced state due to horrendous allergy attack!)

So, he gets home and I go outside to help them in to which this conversation ensues:
Him: This free &%$# was NOT free, I spent 20 minutes at the checkouts getting these
Me: What happened
Him: Cashier didn't know, manager didn't know, and you wouldn't answer your $%!@ phone
Me: Sorry it was on vibrate I just got your text

(his text: Your coupons are $%^&*#@ up!  I.Am.Never.Doing.This.Again.)

So, I say to you other lady couponers that have spouses that don't understand what we go through, realize we can do it, hold our heads up high and then go to battle another day ALL for the family budget.
Couponing is not for the faint of heart, but does not have to be the battlefield my husband seems to imply it is, lol.

I would love to hear your horror stories, either of your own or of your unsuspecting spouse attempting to use expiring coupons :D  We are all in this together and the good news, he DID get all 4 free items I sent him for and the store was so confused they actually paid him .62 to get him out the door (go figure :D)
And this is why I work the full time job and still do ALL the shopping :D (it's ok cause I love it)

Heb - Unadvertised (and maybe advertised) deals :D

Sorry it took a bit to get to this post this week.  Just been keeping up with life and getting behind on the blog.    The good news is there are a couple decent deals at HEB to make shopping fun! (a little bit)

First, there is a $2.50 B yellow coupon for Almay cosmetics.  Makeup remover is considered a cosmetic so you can purchase those and combine with the $2 in the Smart Source 9/23 insert.  The wipes are free with the combination and the liquids are just pennies :D

Next, the Cover Girl $1.25 B yellow coupon is BACK!!!  Combine that with the $5/2 lip coupon to get the Cover Girl lip slicks free(at least for Houston) or cheap other lip products.  Or you can combine with the $3/2 Cover Girl coupon from the last P&G insert to get the single eye shadow free (or better than-free in stores that allow)

Now this is not a free deal but a decent buy for you parents that need a quick snack while cooking dinner or just out on the go (perhaps coupon shopping!)
I honestly have NO clue how my kids can tell the difference sometimes between a name brand and a generic when it comes to something like crackers and peanut butter (seriously, I grew up with the black and white generic aisle at HEB, who here remembers that????)
So anyway, Austin snacks 8 packs of 6 are $2, with yellow coupon they are just $1 each.  These are an
easy quick snack and if you can believe it, they sell these for $1.50 each in the vending machine in my office :O (insane!!!!).

For those of you that printed the $5/1 IP on these (no longer available, I missed it too) this bogo coupon will definitely be a friend of yours!  This will make them free (or better then where allowed!)  Sweet!!!  Also if you note in my picture top right, some packages have $2 peelies so just $1.97/2 if you can find 2 peelies and you need these, :D

Are you a fan of Rimmel?  If so, there is a new B yellow coupon you might want to know about
You can combine this B yellow coupon with the $1 insert from 8/26 or 7/29 Red Plum insert to get eye pencils for as low as .59!!! With Halloween coming up, even the non-makeup wearing gals like me will be jumping on this deal (after all Halloween is coming up and I have to doll up 2 little girls :D)

Next, I noticed this $2 off Nature Made products B coupon
There is a $1 printable (zip 45345) that will make the Vitamin D free (or better than), or if you are a member of Nature Made's reward site, perhaps you have a $5 printable that will make Fish Oil cheap (dang dr told me I have to have these now :(  )

Not much else I noticed at my store, but I was in and out quicker than I prefer so if I missed anything you noticed at your store , be sure to share :D

Free Kids Word World Android App of the Day - Bonus Credit

I am excited about today's free Amazon App of the Day.  Kids Word World: My First Words - Animal is ad free and it has three difficulty levels.  The first has the correct spelling of the word and your child just moves the correct letter to that spot.  The second level will not give the spelling but will lock in the letter when you have put it in the correct order.  The third level and most difficult level, your child must put the letters in the correct order with no hints or help.  I played with this a little this morning and I think it is going to be a great game for roadtrips for my 6 year old.  She is really good at reading, but spelling is still something she needs to explore.

Normally .99, this app is free today.  And as a bonus, when I "purchased" this app, I got a promotional credit of $1 towards Amazon MP3 albums or single songs at Amazon's MP3 store.

Getting PAID (in credit) to take a free APP, sweet!!!!

*Edit to add: Ok, so my 6 year old is playing with this app and up pops a picture of a snake.  She asks for help spelling it only for me to find out they want her to spell anaconda!  So maybe not a GREAT app, but might be worth the quick "purchase" to get the free $1 Amazon Mp3 credit

Dark Shadows Giveaway - ooooo Johnny!!!

Did you go to the theater to see Dark Shadows when it came out?  I certainly did!!  Only thing better than Johnny Depp is an undead Johnny Depp!  I loved the movie and you can beat this is certainly on my Christmas list(or maybe I can convince the hubs we should do Halloween gifts, lol)

Dark Shadows will be released October 2nd (or you can preorder right now on Amazon).

To prepare you for the release of Dark Shadows, Partnerhub, in association with Warner Brothers is offering a neat little app that lets you take a quiz to see if you are creepy enough.

I took the quiz and it appears I am Creepily Conservative.  What are you?
You can also test your trivia knowledge of Barnabas Collins(Johnny's character) and get a customized Horror Scope.  You can even view the trailer and unlock some scenes.  Woo Hoo!!!

Now is your chance to own a BluRay/DVD combo pack of your own.  Simply take the Are you Creepy Enough Quiz and post your results in the comments.  One entry per person and giveaway will end on Wednesday October 3rd after 5 pm.  Winner will then be announced and must respond to claim your prize.
Good luck :D

1/2 price Texas Car Inspection offer - Houston area

If you missed out on the 1/2 price offer for a car inspection from Sweet Jack, I have some good news for you.  For the next 3 days, Groupon is offering a similar deal.
If you are going to be getting your car inspected in the next 6 months, I highly suggest buying this Groupon.
For just $19 you will get a voucher for a car inspection with emissions testing(a savings of 51%) at any of the 12 Mr Sticker locations in and around town.  Coupons for car inspections don't come around very often so grab it while you can.  I am actually taking my car in this month using a similar voucher I bought from SweetJack last year :D

Keep in mind this voucher is only good for 180 days (6 months) so check your car to see when your next inspection is due.  Limit 1 per person.

Earn Real Money and bonus box tops for your school - Phone app

Ok, so I posted about this app originally here.
I signed up that day and then forgot to go daily over the weekend. However, I have now scored enough to order the debit card and still have some money in my account.  I am going to go back to doing this daily to see how much I can earn in a matter of a month.
To give you the highlights:
Sign up for Jingit,  and just watch the ads it shows you
Answer the questions at the end of the ad 1-5 and you earn real money
While this app will not make you rich, it can give you some free pocket change. What I like about it, is the ads are short and you can watch them while standing in line at the store or waiting at a doctors office etc.

You can also earn points by checking in to a local Walmart and scanning a few barcodes.  That shouldn't be too hard for those that shop there already anyway.  I have not made it yet to Walmart but hope to scan when there.

To sign up -

Now how does this work (and other fine print):
You need the following items to qualify to register for Jingit
•They have their own a Facebook account
•They have their own mobile phone with text messaging
•They live in the United States
•They must be at least 13 years old
(multiple people in the same household can sign up, you just need to have all the qualifiers above)
.
How to register:
1. Starting on your computer, go to Jingit
2. Fill out the information on the sign up page and provide your cell number to verify your account
3. When you get the text verification code, enter into your computer and confirm
4. Then download the app to your phone and start watching ads!  Super easy right?

So how do you get your money?
To use your money earned, you will have to get the Jingit Visa Debit card.(no credit check is done to get the card)  The fee for the card is $2 $3, but they take it from your earnings and in fact you can't even sign up for the card until you earn $2 $3 in your account.  After that, simply register for the card and they will mail it to you in about 3 weeks. Then, as you earn, you simply transfer your earnings onto the card and use it like a prepaid debit card at stores. (or you can use your earnings at music.me)

There is NO monthly fee or charges for having the card after the initial  $2 $3 fee.  (your card needs to have some activity every 90 days).

This card will be perfect for all my small balances at Walgreens and CVS :D

You can read all the details in the FAQ

Thanks Heather

Free Brach's Candy and cheap meat - HEB

I forgot to take a picture of the yellow coupon on this one (so I don't know the expiration date, sorry) but this is a pretty sweet deal(no pun intended.

If you go down the candy aisle, you should see a B yellow coupon for buy 1 get 1 free Brach's peg candy.  The candy at my store was as low as $1.39 making it free when combined with the $1.50/2 coupon found here.(I used zip 43420)
I bought 2 Starbrites @ 1.39
1 Mandarin orange slices @1.54
1 Sour Gummi Bears @ 1.54

The two bogo coupons took off $1.39 each so I paid .08 for all 4 bags after 2 printable coupons.

A friend (thanks Karen) told me about this great deal on meat at HEB.  There is a yellow coupon for buy thin sliced chicken breast, get free beef for stir fry.  You should be able to find packages of chicken for as low as $2.70.  (mine was 2.71) The coupon states max value of beef at $5.98 but strangely takes off $6 automatically (cashier's might override this).  In my case, cashier let it go so after my $4.54 beef, the overage of $1.46 worked toward my chicken making both just over $1.50 WOW!!!!

Thanks SD for the candy info and thanks Karen for the meat deal!
I combined these deals with the cheap Granola bars to get some more box tops for the schools!  LOVE IT.

Walgreens - Decently Sweet Deal on Herbal Essence

From the tags on the shelf at my store, this deal goes for another week!
This was a happy way to get some cheap Herbal Essence and having 2 girls with long hair, conditioner is always a welcome bonus in this house.

So anyway, you might know that the smaller bottles of Herbal Essence are on sale for 2/$6 and earn you a $2 register reward when you buy two.
We have $3/2 coupons from the 8/5 Red Plum insert
Well, as a bonus it appears you can combine this deal with the buy shampoo get free conditioner or styler coupon found in the 9/16 Smart Source insert.

This is how my transasction played out (coupons all went through with no issue and auto'd the amount off)

2 Herbal Essence shampoo 2/$6
2 Herbal Essence conditoner @ $6.99 each
-$13.98 - 2 buy shampoo get conditoner insert coupons (auto took off $6.99 each)
-3/2 Herbal Essence (for the shampoos you are paying for)

Paid $3 out of pocket and earned $2 register reward.  So final cost was $1 for 2 small and 2 large conditioners :D  SWEET!!!!

Thanks SD!

Heb - Some more Box Top items

While there is nothing on the box top program that I can see us getting free this time around, there are quite a few HEB yellow coupons out there for buy x get y free, making for some ok deals.
First, I found more clearance today so I will post that first, then some of the other coupons I noticed.

The store I shopped today had a cart of clearance and it that cart were some Hamburger Helper reduced to .75 each.  There is also a yellow coupon for buy 2 Hamburger, Chicken or Tuna Helper and get a free can of Green Giant corn.  If you notice in my picture, I turned one can backward so you can see it has a box top on it.

So I got 10 Hamburger Helper @ .75 each = $7.50
5 Green Giant Niblet style corns @ $1.06 each
-$5.30 - 5 yellow coupons for buy HH get free Green Giant
-$2.25 - 3 .75/3 Hamburger Helper insert coupons 9/9 SS, 8-5 GM and a few others or printable
=$5.25 for all and I earned the 100 Bonus box tops(worth $10 to participating schools)

*If you don't find clearance at your store, this same scenario would be $15 - $2.25 = $12.75 (an ok deal)

Some other yellow coupons (all M's):

Earn Money and Box Tops watching Ads on your Smartphone!

Ok, so I heard rumblings about this new app where you watch some ads, answer a few questions and earn real CASH money!  So I signed up for Jingit, did the ads for today and already have a balance of $1.50!  It took me 20 minutes from sign up to viewing all the ads for today(and most of that was because I was answer facebook inquiries at the same time).  While this app will not make you rich, it can give you some free pocket change. What I like about it, is the ads are short and then you have 1-5 questions(at least in my experience today).  This is a great app to have when you are standing in the checkout lanes waiting for your turn to ring up your groceries :D

You can also earn points by checking in to a local Walmart and scanning a few barcodes.  That shouldn't be too hard for those that shop there already anyway.

Now how does this work (and other fine print):
You need the following items to qualify to register for Jingit

HEB - Great deal on Nature Valley bars

I had about 10 minutes to walk through HEB today and I am glad I did.  While there, I noticed 3 boxes of Cascadian Farms cereal banged up in the clearance section.  Since they were all dented, they had them with a sticker for $1.50.  Lucky for me they had exactly 3 and there currently is a B yellow coupon for $3/3 Cascadian Farms cereal or bars.  Woo Hoo $0.50 a box and I didn't have to bring any coupons with me.
Since those are box tops items I looked around a bit to see if I could found a few more deals.
They had some Nature Valley bars banged up to so I went over to the shelf to see if they had a yellow coupon for those too.

Imagine my surprise when I not only noticed a yellow coupon, but also a sale tag!
On sale for $1.50 with a $2/2 coupon right there for me again.  Makes them just $0.50 a box.  I got 15 participating items and got the 100 bonus box tops.

Hope to have more hidden deals tomorrow but didn't have much time to walk the whole store today.

HEB Ad - Sept 19th - 25th

Prices are from my store ad.

Please remember Heb has regional ads and they can vary greatly in meat and produce prices, so please go online and view your local zip code to confirm you have the same prices as my ad. I have noticed a variance in stores just 3 miles apart.
Also note, HEB accepts coupons at face value. You can review their coupon policy here.
Something to note on my matchups.  I will post the in store coupon marked items in the ad in a followup post once I find out which are M's and which are B's.  B store coupons can be combined with paper coupons for added savings, M store coupons cannot.

There is a box top deal going on at HEB now:
I will put a * next to the items that are boxtops items in this post.

HEB - A few freebies or better!

HEB is definitely worth a stop lately.  Here is a sample of some of the items I found that you might want to pick up on your outings.

Kens dressing 9 oz are once again on sale for $1, making them free after $1 coupon from 8/12 SS

You might want to peruse the toy section for these older Star Wars clone war characters.  They are coming out with new packaging and most these are on clearance for .99 (even at stores that they are unmarked :D )

If you still have your Wet N Wild coupons from 9/9 RP, you can score this better than free deal at your local HEB.  Some stores have clearance ones for .88, even better!

I decided to random scan some Star Wars toys that were not marked in hopes of finding more clearance and it paid off!  I scored this Transformer Star Wars character for $1.69, Whoop!

Sunday's newspaper is going to have a coupon for $5/2 Cover Girl lip products. You can combine those with the $1.25 Cover Girl B coupons to get them free (and don't forget they count toward the P&G, Buy $30 worth of product, get $10 coupon oynso of $30- to be used after 9/18)  Limit 4 like coupons per transaction.

Sweet!

More later, but it is girls night and my kids are waiting for me so we can start the games :D

Reader Spotlight - Great Pampers Deal at HEB

Reader Jenn sent me a deal she found at her HEB today.  There are a couple B coupons at HEB that combined with manufacturer coupons can net you diapers (depending on size) for as cheap as .08 or .09 each.
Pampers box $24.94
Cover Girl lip $3.74 each
=$32.42
-$3 B YQ for Pampers
-$3 coupon from8/26 P&G  insert
-2 $1.25 B YQ for Cover Girl
-2 $2 blinkies for Cover Girl Lip, found at Kroger
=$19.92, earned $10 oynso for purchasing $30 in P&G items

So $9.92 for all items.  So size 3 diapers 112 count
$9.92/112 = .09 a diaper

I know back in my diaper days, .10 a diaper was a buy price for size 3, so this is a definite buy price!

*I had a working lunch today, so will have to check the store tomorrow for unadvertised deals.

Thanks Jenn for this great diaper scenario <3 p="p">
